When going about my normal purchases, I am a savvy saver. I’ve always used the hacks to secure the best deals and I will discuss them in more detail throughout this blog post. Following a year of financial hardship, every penny counts to our family and I will do what it takes to save the pennies for something more important.
Quick note: Some of the links contained on this page are affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase, I will earn a commission. I only recommend products I use myself and think would be useful for you.
Let’s dive in to discuss some of my recent money-saving purchases and some tips for ensuring you save money when spending online. And get the best deals possible!
Gorgeous flowers at a discount price
A recent example of me securing the best deal possible was my mum’s birthday presents. Another blogger posted an amazing discount code, which meant I could order flowers to be delivered to my mum. It was a special birthday and this was the touch I was looking for.
I got a luxury product at a bargain price and my mum loved the flowers. I’ve since used this company again for a get-well gift.
Check out this amazing discount code. just ordered some flowers for my mum’s birthday 🌺🌷🌺♥️ @BloomandWild @katieflossblog https://t.co/SwrCOIyd5s

Birthday cards
When purchasing birthday cards, I usually just nip into Card Factory and buy the same generic cards as everyone else. This year I decided to click through an advert I saw on Instagram, to an amazing company called Thortful (sign up using this link & receive 30% off). And I got the best deal ever.
They are a marketplace of unique cards for all occasions. And I am so happy I found this company. Due to my online experience with them, they will be a go-to for ordering occasion cards from now on. My partner has also ordered with them since my experience.

Moonpig discount
When completing my recent online purchase with Moonpig, I searched for a discount code and found a 30% discount on voucher codes. They promise to refund if the code doesn’t work, as they test them before posting on the website. The way I look at is if a brand is willing to give a discount code and this saves you money, why not use it? Why not search for the best deals?
I then checked my cashback apps to find the best deal in terms of cashback. It turns out TopCashback gave slightly more than Quidco. Following this, I went to my phone and discovered you couldn’t use the app to get the cashback and therefore went through the webpage. I ended up with four amazing birthday cards for £13.77.
Knowing these little tricks and adjustments in the process does save you money. And it is worth the few extra minutes it takes to get a discount.
Booking our first holiday abroad in several years
When booking our recent Jet2 holiday, I didn’t just accept the discount applied on the site. I did a quick Google search and instantly found another discount code to use. And it was accepted. Money for nothing. Hard-earned money we would have spent, had I not put a little bit of thought into being savvy, to find the best deal.
My top tips for saving money with your purchases
Download money-saving apps to your phone
I don’t know about you, but I make a lot of purchases on my phone. It’s quicker and easier. Especially if I’m on the move or pushed for time.
Before buying anything online, I’m now in the habit of always going through one of my cashback apps first. The app sometimes drives where I purchase from and what items I purchase. If there is a good discount, I will usually shop there if they stock what I’m looking for. Or if they are inspiring ideas for special occasions.

Do your research
Each time we need to renovate the house or buy furniture for my little one, I spend time researching.
I gather up everything we need in a basket and work out where would be the best place to shop and what cashback or discounts are available. After all, I’m spending a large portion of my hard-earned money and I want to claw back any money I can to spend on other enjoyable activities in life.
Leave your purchases in the basket
Doing this does work. I’ve had numerous emails lately asking me to resume shopping and offering a discount on the product. Usually in the region of 20-30%. Why not have a look around in advance of needing items, if you have time, just leave them there. To be rewarded with money off, for doing nothing.
Sign up for the mailing lists of your favourite retailers
I know what you’re thinking? Constant emails trying to sell you things are annoying, and I agree.
But I’ve landed some of the best hotel stay discounts and made purchases off the back of these emails. We are talking Travelodge rooms for £30. I regularly got the early email about these prices and when visiting a town centre for a night out (pre-kids), it was more cost-effective for me and my hubby to stay over. Who wants to run for the last train when you can jump into bed and chill?
I would say, only sign up to retailers you trust and buy from regularly. This way you won’t feel bombarded by advertising. The offers you do receive will be relevant to you and useful.

Become a loyalty card member
Boots has to be my favourite loyalty scheme. Over a year, the points I earn come in handy. I then use it for in-store purchases. It was particularly helpful when we were struggling financially. Hopefully, now, I can save them up for Christmas presents.
I also get sent regular discounts on the app, based on my spending habits and the parenting club is fantastic. Yes, Boots can be a little more expensive than other retailers for the same products. However, if you use discount vouchers and bulk buy occasionally, the points soon add up.
I order a box full of items, which are delivered to my local chemist, about 3-4 times a year. I stock up on toiletries, birthday presents, treats for me, and essentials for the little one. This service was especially helpful as a new mum. Bulky items such as baby milk and nappies were delivered over the road from my house. Without me having to visit a Boots store, carrying heavy bags following a c section.
